The conference was opened by President of Latvia Egils Levits.
The responsible bodies of the European Commission are also represented at the highest level, with the Brussels delegation headed by Jean-Eric Paquet, Director-General of DG Reaserch & Innovation.
The conference discussed the expected changes in the organization of various research-related programs. Particular attention is paid to expansion programs, i.e. special support programs for countries with less successful track record (including Latvia). Success stories presented. Suggestions for project preparation are provided. Last year was the first time Latvia received more from the EU in the form of successfully funded projects than the state paid into the program.
Even in smaller working groups, Jean-Eric Paquet got acquainted with the views of the responsible institutions on Latvia's future needs.
Marcis Leja presented the work of the Cancer Mission of Europe Union.
