The workshop brought together experts from several European countries representing oncology, data engineering, biostatistics, and hospital administration to jointly explore ways to improve the quality, accessibility, and use of clinical data in patient care and research, as well as to enhance data interoperability for cross-border purposes.
The main objective of the workshop was to collaboratively define practical use cases and initiate the development of a shared data catalogue to harmonize data across different cancer centres and support further analyses across the network. This work is essential for enabling comparative analyses between centres, fostering international research collaboration, and strengthening the capacity of Comprehensive Cancer Centres to use data for evidence-based decision-making.
During the discussions, participants also examined potential data analysis protocols, privacy-preserving federated analysis approaches, the use of digital platforms, and implementation plans for 2026. At the same time, the workshop contributed to strengthening collaboration among clinicians, data specialists, and administrative experts within the European Comprehensive Cancer Centres network. In-depth discussions focused on a common use case that will underpin further collaborative development.
Latvia was represented at the workshop by Rolands Lappuķe, Senior Expert at the University of Latvia within Work Package 8 of the EUnetCCC project. The Children’s Clinical University Hospital was represented by Jānis Rencis, who contributed to discussions on the use of clinical data and strengthening collaboration in the field of paediatric oncology. Additional representatives from Latvia included colleagues from Riga East Clinical University Hospital and Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital.
The workshop marked an important step towards more effective and interoperable use of cancer data in Europe, strengthening data readiness in clinical practice and promoting data-driven collaboration among cancer centres.
