During the meeting, the overall progress of the project and the achievements of the work packages were evaluated, and the next steps towards the next phase of the project were discussed. The discussions confirmed the high engagement, responsibility, and close collaboration of the partners, which is a crucial prerequisite for the sustainable development and impact of EUCAIM at the European level. The goal of the EUCAIM project is to create a Europe-wide digital, federated cancer-related image infrastructure to be used for the development of AI tools in the field of precision medicine. This infrastructure will serve as a foundation for improving cancer diagnostics and treatment across Europe, ensuring secure data exchange and opportunities for the validation of AI tools in real clinical conditions. In the first two years of the EUCAIM project, a central platform was put into operation with reference centers in Valencia and Rotterdam. A total of 57 data collections were compiled with more than 42,000 patient data records. The meeting focused significantly on the Data User’s Journey and Data Holder’s Journey, analyzing practical challenges and potential improvements in data access, transfer, and federated processing processes. On the second day, practical demonstrations and use case analyses took place, including data upload, catalog inclusion, as well as demonstrations of federated search and processing solutions. Special attention was also given to the future development of EUCAIM after the project's conclusion, including the transition to the European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC) model.
After the project is completed, its results will be used to establish the European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC), where member states and their institutions will be able to become full participants, gaining access to infrastructure and data for further research and innovation. Discussions emphasized that the work done so far has created a solid foundation for this next phase and that maintaining focus, close coordination, and partner contributions is essential in this critical stage to ensure the long-term impact and visibility of EUCAIM.
About the EUCAIM project

EUCAIM (European Federation for Cancer Images) is an ambitious Horizon Europe initiative that focuses on the accessibility of cancer imaging diagnostic data for research and the development of artificial intelligence. The project aims to create a federated data infrastructure that promotes the secure use of data while preserving patient privacy and data protection requirements.
