In the session "Success Stories: Latvia’s Scientific Achievements through Nordic Collaboration," Dr. Poļaka presented the NordForsk‑funded project "Responsible Innovation and Social Knowledge about Artificial Intelligence (RISK‑AI)," one of 11 projects involving Latvian organisations. The consortium includes partners from Norway, Denmark, Finland and Latvia and addresses responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine, public trust and societal understanding. The University of Latvia is involved as a collaborating partner, and LU KPMI is currently conducting preparatory activities for RISK‑AI implementation — comparing legal frameworks at member‑state and EU levels, assessing and mitigating AI‑related risks, and engaging and educating stakeholders.
NordForsk representatives presented statistics on Latvia’s participation in the programme: a total of 61 applications included Latvian partners, of which 11 projects were awarded funding. The event also discussed the importance of international cooperation for improving research quality, visibility and societal impact, and the opportunities NordForsk programmes provide to Baltic researchers. Dr. Poļaka and other speakers highlighted the competition’s role in strengthening Nordic‑Baltic collaboration, enhancing partner competencies and promoting research grounded in shared values.
