The Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (CDPC) has refined its approach to the evaluation and monitoring of nationally organised cancer screening programmes, adapting the indicator methodology in line with available data and the development of data systems in Latvia.

Previously, only a limited set of indicators was publicly available. The methodology has now been expanded and refined to make the fullest possible use of available screening data and to ensure a consistent, comparable approach to programme evaluation.

The methodology has been developed on the basis of the European Commission's quality assurance guidelines and internationally recognised recommendations, while adapting the indicators to the availability and quality of data in Latvia. This approach enables more consistent and detailed monitoring of screening programme performance, while maintaining international comparability. As data system capabilities improve, the methodology and list of indicators will be further expanded to ensure comprehensive programme evaluation and monitoring. The approach is aligned with the objectives of the EUCANSCREEN project to improve cancer screening programme monitoring and evaluation at the European level.

Indicators and visualisations are available on the CDPC website, where data are presented in dynamic charts, providing a user-friendly and clear information display. Additional detailed data are available in the health statistics database.
