She noted that the assembly included reports on regional conferences, online courses, observation programmes and the maturity model carried out within the project, as well as discussions on patient involvement, data sharing, cancer screening and patient pathways. The event concluded with panel discussions on the project's impact and future collaboration in European cancer care.
Simon Oberst, Director of Quality and Accreditation at the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI), emphasised that the goal is straightforward — quality cancer care for every patient, regardless of which country they live in. According to him, comprehensive cancer centres must operate across nine quality domains, ranging from governance and diagnostics to research and patient involvement. In practice, however, centres face real challenges: how can the latest research advances reach smaller centres? How can equal access to clinical trials be ensured for patients everywhere? How can data be shared securely between specialists? Oberst's answer is effective comprehensive cancer centre infrastructure, or CCI (Cancer Centre Infrastructures). In this model, a cancer centre functions as the hub of a network, bringing together university hospitals, research institutes and regional institutions within a unified collaborative framework.
On the subject of multidisciplinary teams, Oberst stressed that while they are indispensable, they must be well organised and effectively led. Teams need to work with accurate data, communicate with patients and make use of modern digital tools.
Alongside the plenary sessions, the event featured poster presentations in which participants showcased results in the areas of intervention design, gender equality, communication and the Resources Centre.
The CCI4EU project aims to strengthen cancer care infrastructure and improve the quality of oncology services across EU member states and associated countries.

The project "Comprehensive Cancer Infrastructures 4 Europe, CCI4EU" has received funding from the European Union program "Cancer Mission", according to grant agreement no. 101103746
