Invites to the Online-Workshop "Principles of successful patient engagement in cancer research"

Workshop will be held on December 10, 2020 | 9:30 am-1:00 pm.

Within the framework of the German EU Council Presidency, the research ministers from Germany, Portugal and Slovenia adopted the Declaration "Europe: Together Against Cancer" on 13 October 2020. The ministers met at the research policy conference "Europe: Unite against Cancer", organized by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), to discuss common ways to strengthen European cancer research.
The active engagement of patients in cancer research is a major concern of the Trio Council Presidency Germany/Portugal/Slovenia 2020-21 and has been highlighted in the declaration. It is of great importance that patients are more closely involved in cancer research and that they can help shape research projects from the very beginning. In order to support this important process, the BMBF has launched an initiative to make patient involvement in cancer research the standard in Europe.
Following an initial brainstorming process, the BMBF started a first exchange with international patient representatives, cancer researchers and scientists engaged in participatory research on 14 October 2020. This meeting resulted in a first draft of a statement on the "Principles of Successful Patient Engagement in Cancer Research".
These principles are now to be discussed and sharpened in an online workshop with a broader range of stakeholders.

The final statement will be published by mid-2021 and will be the basis for a roadmap process aimed at strengthening the implementation of active patient engagement in cancer research throughout Europe.

Please register by 29 November 2020 at workshop@dlr.de using the PDF form attached.
Please find the agenda of the seminar HERE.
